15 boats will be competing for the 2020 UIM F4 World Championship in Viverone, Italy this weekend.
Britain will provide two of those teams with drivers Harvey Smith and Jonny Brewer.
Smith will be racing in a Moore hull and is no stranger to this type of racing now having taken a runners-up medal in the F1H2o organised F4-S championship last season.
Brewer will be using a Molgaard, he told me before making the journey from Lincoln:
I am really excited to be making the trip to Viverone and would like to thank LJM Design & Management and Leighton Vans for the support they have provided me to enable this to happen.
I would also like to wish all of my fellow competitors luck for the race.
Having just turned 17, Sweden’s Mathilda Wiberg will be the youngest competitor in the championship.
Young she may be, but she is already building an impressive racing CV wining the UIM Class 3J World Championship with Stefan Arand last season in Öregrund and racing for Team Sweden in Sharjah in the last two rounds of the F4-S championship.
I asked her about her expectations this weekend:
I hope to gain experience and knowledge from this race since I’m fairly new to driving F4.
I’m looking forward to improving the boat and my driving over the weekend!
Nikita Lijcs took an impressive fifth position last weekend in the UIM F2 race held in Lithuania, this weekend he will be back in his F4 hull and with his experience goes into the world championship as one of the hot favourites.
Due to the elephant in the room this year, it has been decided that the world title will be fought out over a four race format over one weekend, similar to that used in UIM European championships with a driver’s best three results to count.
