On Saturday, 30th of July <Link> I published an article under the headline of, ‘2016 UIM Class 1 World Championship to be held in Chioggia, Italy‘.
The source of this information came from nautica.it as was indicated in the post.
The UIM have very kindly contacted me today and refuted this with a statement;
As regards the UIM Class 1/V1 World Championship calendar, and following the withdrawal of the organizers of the UIM Class 1/V-1 World Championship in mid-September in Malta, the UIM informs that alternative options to organize this event are currently under evaluation.
The city of Chioggia, where the UIM Offshore 3D World Championship will take place on 16 -18 September is one of the various options the UIM is considering. The UIM will not take any related decision before August 8th.
Any communication indicating that the UIM has or might have awarded Chioggia to host the 2016 UIM Class1/ V1 World championship is false.
Thanks to Joanna Cosentino (UIM Marketing & Communication Manager) for sharing the current Class 1 situation with Powerboat Racing World.
