The Union Internationale Motonautique, (UIM) have awarded the Italian town Chioggia the 2016 UIM Class 1 World Championship, this will also include the V1 Championship for mono hulls reports nautica.it

To be held on September 16th – 18th, with free practice and qualifying on the Friday and 4 races to run over the Saturday and Sunday.

Marino Masiero, President of Chioggi Tourism said,

For Chioggia to have been awarded the 2016 UIM Class 1 World Championship was a goal that we honestly did not expect to achieve in spite of great energy employed.
Now we have to live up to the expectations of thousands of international guests, the scrutiny of global television and newspapers, who will be present for the 5 day event.
Over the weekend we expect a full house in hotels and campsites. It will be a great way to close the season, but also the best way to make Chioggia known throughout Europe, the United States, Asia and the UAE.

Chioggia is a coastal town and part of Venice in northern Italy.

It is situated on a small island at the southern entrance to the Lagoon of Venice.
