The UIM confirmed yesterday after the Formula Committee meeting in Montenegro that Tønsberg will host a round of the UIM F2 World Championship on the 3rd and 5th of August next year.
Tønsberg organiser, Joyce Christine Andersen said:
We learn from the Commissioner Report reports, and react positively to them.
We always work closely with our UIM officials, and we endeavour to keep developing the race.
I think that this year’s event was the best so far.
Frode Sundsdal was very pleased with aspects of the 2017 race held in Norway:
The live broadcast was very professional, fans could follow the action from all over the world.
Our volunteers did an outstanding job, and the pilots gave us the best race all year with Pierre Lundin winning and receiving a Baume & Mercier watch.
The Tønsberg race course is known to be the most spectacular course on the F2 world tour, however the organisers want to alter the track for next year.
Sundsdal commented:
We want to try out different race courses over the winter – and we will test them.
The drivers have asked for a 2018 course to accommodate 20 boats, whereas we have only allowed 16 in the past.
It’s a safety versus show issue and we will resolve it.
He concludes:
Without the UIM/NMF officials, the volunteers, the city and county – our sponsors, family and friends it would not been possible to plan the next Tønsberg Boatrace – but I can promise you, it will be a bigger, and better show in 2018 when we celebrate our 5th edition!
