The probability of there being a 2020 UIM F2 World Championship has been increased in the last few days.
Portugal, which is due to host two rounds of the shortened championship has now been designated a green country due to it’s decreasing COVID-19 infection rates and Lithuania, which recently staged three UIM European championships, has so far been spared from the ravages of the virus.
Lietuvos Motorlaivių Federacija President, double European UIM F2 Champion and organiser of the first round in Kaunus, Edgaras Riabko, posted on social media today that he was looking forward to the three race series:
I have to do well at my home event and take some good points to Portugal.
We have never had two rounds so close to each other and we will have to prepare to maintain our competitiveness and reliability.
Riabko’s sponsor, Hegelmann Transporte, have provided him with the funds to purchase a new Mercury Optimax motor for 2020:
I am really grateful to Antonio Hegelmann, who continues to support me and gives the opportunity to maintain our racing at the highest level.
It’s thought that around 17 teams will compete for the 2020 title, which under the circumstances, is really rather good.
