Al-Qemzi – ‘This is racing’

Chris Davies on 15th December 2018

Team Abu Dhabi’s Thani Al-Qemzi sustained engine issues midway through the race in today’s Gran Prix of Sharjah, which ruined his chance to become the new UIM F1H2O World Champion.

The Emirati had moved up from sixth to third at the start, but was pegged back by an unfortunate yellow flag. He held in third until technical issues ruined the title dream after 17 of the 44 laps.

After the race, a disappointed Al-Qemzi said:

This is racing. I broke my engine. Maybe some electrics broke inside. I did my best from the start. I was second and there was an accident and I went back to sixth at the next start. I push hard, but I had no luck.

The victory in last week’s Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi assured the Emirati driver 74 overall points, which were enough for him to gain the bronze medal in the 2018 F1H2O World Championship.
