Honoring the Legendary Michael Werner on His 80th Birthday !

Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life and career of Michael Werner, a true icon in racing, as he turns 80. Born on October 26, 1945, Michael’s journey from a mechanic in North Germany to a world-renowned racing champion is a testament to his exceptional talent, determination, and passion.

Michael began his racing career in 1967, immersing himself in the thrilling world of powerboat racing. By 1975, he had already secured the title of three-time F3 German Champion, paving the way for further success. His impressive achievements include being a European Champion and a formidable force in the Formula Grand Prix series. His unwavering dedication to the sport led him to clinch the FONDA two-litre World Series and multiple Formula Grand Prix ON titles.

A standout moment in his career was his rivalry with the legendary Seebold family. We have all seen this week that Steve Kerton and Michael Werner chase Mr Bill Around Bristol docs, but for Werner there is A cherished memory that remains. His victory in Nottingham, where he triumphed over both Billy and Mike Seebold on a challenging two-pin course.

Despite fierce competition, camaraderie and respect flourished between these racing titans. Michael fondly recalls the technical battles and the joy of overcoming obstacles—moments that still give him “goosebumps.” I had to change the pistons every heat Werner told us to be able to beat Mr Bill, svinging 10.500 rpms..

Recalling the loss of his special boatbuilder and friend, Michael remarked,

“As my thoughts are with Mr Bills family in this difficult time, the picture of Mike, myself, and Billy best illustrates how I feel after receiving the news of Mr Bills passing, but the moment in Nottingham stands as my greatest racing achievement.”

Michael’s journey was not without challenges, including several accidents where he remarkably survived against all odds. His legacy in the racing world is measured not only by his victories but also by the resilience and wisdom he brought to every race, particularly on the technical front. Known for his saying, “Hey, what’s this for shit,” his humor and insight left a lasting mark on the racing community.

After retiring from F1H2O World Championship in 1998, Michael continued to influence the sport, dedicating his expertise to engine building and contributing to championships with various drivers. For many years he moved partly to Norway, supporting his friend, Frode Sundsdal Racingfabrikken and later to Austria supporting Rupp Temper.

His recent recovery from eye surgery and tumor removal further showcases his indomitable spirit.

Michael Werner’s story is one of triumphs, challenges, and unforgettable moments. On this joyous occasion, the entire racing community extends heartfelt birthday wishes, celebrating a legend who has inspired so many.

Mubadala Excellence Program to support first Emirati woman in Formula 4 Powerboat World Championship

Powerboat racer Alia Abdul Salam will accelerate to new success after being selected to join the Mubadala Excellence Program (MEP), a community initiative that supports talented individuals across the UAE in the field of sports, arts, culture, and innovation. As part of this milestone, Mubadala joins as the Title Partner for Alia’s 2025 Formula 4 Powerboat World Championship season.

Her participation marks a historic moment as the first Emirati woman to compete in the Formula 4 Powerboat World Championship, representing the UAE in upcoming international races in Sweden, Norway, and Italy. This is both a personal milestone and a meaningful reflection of the UAE’s growing presence in global sport, and a proud step forward for Emirati women competing in high-performance arenas.

Through the Mubadala Excellence Program, she will gain access to support that helps her pursue this passion with purpose, highlighting the program’s mission to unlock potential and foster meaningful community impact.

Alia was raised in a sports-focused environment and inspired by her father, Abdul Salam Firooz, a former champion and longtime contributor to marine motorsports. From a young age, she was drawn to the water and began carving her path in the sport, steadily breaking barriers at the local level before stepping onto the global stage. Her journey is defined by ambition, discipline, and a strong commitment to growth.

Round 2, Khorfakkan: Demonstrated adaptability to changing marine conditions and secured seventh place.
Round 3, Abu Dhabi: Delivered her strongest performance of the season, placing sixth and earning recognition for technical precision and race strategy.
