At a press conference held by the mayor of Vila Velha de Ródão, Luís Miguel Ferro Pereira and Paulo Ferreira, the president of the Portuguese Powerboat Federation, the local press and television gathered to hear about the forthcoming UIM F2 races that will be held this week in the picturesque municipality of Castelo Branco.

Duarte Benavente, the current leader of the 2020 UIM F2 World Championship was also on hand to answer questions, when asked about this week’s racing he replied in determined fashion:

There is no pressure on me.

I am here to enjoy my racing.

It certainly looks like it will be an enjoyable four days of action with the final two rounds of a shortened F2 season to be competed for.

Mayor Pereira explained that it hadn’t been easy to stage the event under the current circumstances and that Vila Velha de Ródão is a small town with a tight event budget.

UIM Race Director, Pelle Larsson who has had a packed diary overseeing UIM F2 and F4 world championship races recently told me after the presser:

It’s incredible that we have managed to run two championships this year, the competitors from both classes and the organisers have done an amazing job to make it happen.

With the help of Pereira and Ferreira, nine boats will hit the water tomorrow for the round two qualifying session.
