Bermuda’s British Offshore Challenge

John Moore on 9th March 2018

Bermuda’s Errin Butterfield and Shaki Easton had a very strong 2017 season in their local racing and capped it off with victory in the Rubis Around the Island Race.

The pairing of Butterfield and Easton took delivery of a brand new Mercury FourStroke powered Phantom 19G hull in the spring of last year. The set-up was a mirror of the outfit that Jack Bobin used to win the 2016 UIM 3A World Championship.

The package was rigged, tested and then shipped to Bermuda by Jack’s father Kerry.

Butterfield and Easton will be expanding their racing horizons this year

Shaki Easton will be driving Jack Bobin’s World Championship winning boat at the Falmouth Marathon Regatta organised by the IPRC in late June while Errin Butterfield will be competing as a navigator in all 3 UKOPRA sanctioned Offshore races this season.

Culver, Butterfield and Bobin

Butterfield will be sitting in the back of a Twister Catamaran which was previously raced by Sweden’s Gustaf Lindén.

In Cornwall, Easton will have retired fireman and former World Champion Barry Culver pointing him in the right direction while Butterfield will have Kerry Bobin behind the wheel of the rapid cat.
