There is still time to apply for the 2021 UIM Environmental Award.

In order to inspire and recognize excellence in innovation, development, and the application of environmentally friendly technologies the UIM is delighted to present the 12th edition of the UIM Environmental Award.

UIM President, Raffaele Chiulli said.

The UIM is committed to promoting environmentally friendly practices which, we hope, will help to contribute towards solving some of the environmental challenges of today, particularly those involving the decline in biodiversity to the unsustainable use of energy resources.

What is the UIM Environmental Award?

This award recognises outstanding environmental leaders, whether individuals or organisations that have excelled in 2021 in vision, innovation, leadership, and initiatives to the benefit of the environment.

Who can apply?

UIM Member Federations, racing teams, boat builders, engine manufacturers, universities, research centres, scientists, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), event organisers, companies and individuals are all eligible for the 2021 UIM Environmental Award.

What is the benefit of the recognition?

The winners of the 2021 Environmental Award will be announced in an official press release distributed to more than 1500 international media representatives, UIM partners & sponsors, UIM Promoters, National Federations, and stakeholders.

Sunreef Yachts won the award in 2020 for its in-house engineered solar power system. Their system is the only composite-integrated photovoltaic technology in the marine industry. Engineered by the Sunreef Yachts Eco R&D office, it allows solar panels to be integrated with all curved composite structures for an energy efficiency unrivalled in the yachting world.

The 2019 award went to the team from Italy’s Blue Matrix whose vision was centred on the belief that green technology excellence applied through sport can be transferred to other production sectors to give a concrete effect in the fight against climate change. For this reason, the team created competence centre in Taranto focused on electric boating based exclusively on renewable energy sources.

In 2018 the award went to the Yacht Club De Monaco who, since 2014 have organised in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Hydro’s Foundation, and the Union Internationale Motonautique, the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge. This challenge allows young engineers the opportunity to develop alternative propulsion systems to power tomorrow’s yachting using only clean energy sources.

UIM Special Awards applications open

The UIM are inviting proposals for their three 2020 Special Awards and the process is open to pretty much everyone who is involved with the sport.

The three honours that are up for grabs are for innovation, environmental benefit and greening the sport.

In a press release today the UIM were said to be:

This Award recognises outstanding environmental leaders, whether individuals or organisations that have excelled in inspiration, vision, innovation, leadership and initiatives to the benefit of the Environment.

As to who can apply:

UIM Member Federations, Racing Teams, Boat Builders, Engine Manufacturers, Universities, Research Centers, Scientists, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), event organisers, companies and individuals.

Stromoy and Lauri named UIM drivers of the year

Norway’s Marit Stromoy was named ‘Driver of the Year’ at the 11th Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) Awards Ceremony, staged at Le Musée Olympique in Lausanne last night.

She received the highest score in a social media poll and a vote by the UIM Council and beat off some tough competition including F1H2o and F2 world champions Shaun Torrente and Rashed Al Qemzi.

The sport’s ‘Junior Driver of the Year’ title went to 11-year-old Estonian Ander Hubert Lauri, winner of both the 2019 UIM Aquabike Ski Juniors GP3.2 World and European Championships.

Stromoy said after the prize giving:

So incredibly proud to be named Driver of The Year by the International powerboat federation, UIM!

Stefan Arand – 2018 UIM Junior Driver of the Year

16-year-old Stefan Arand was named as the 2018 UIM Junior Driver of the Year in Monaco last Saturday, beating fellow nominees, Mattias Reinaas and Jakob Simon.

The Estonian (pictured with Nadia Comaneci, the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 at the Olympic Games), won UIM World Championships in the GT15 and GT30 classes last season.

Arand has won a total of 12 UIM medals in his short career, including three World Championships and six European titles.
