CTIC F1 Shenzhen confirm Chiappe and Morin for 2019

John Moore on 9th December 2018

Peter Morin from the CTIC F1 Shenzhen China team has very quietly been putting together an excellent set of results in this season’s UIM F1H2o World Championship.

Morin from Le Vaudreuil in France hasn’t failed to finish in the six races held this season and has been on the podium in London and Abu Dhabi.

Having made his F1H2o debut last season where he finished 12th in the championship standings last season, he started to make his presence known at Sharjah in 2017 with a drive to sixth.

The son-in-law of 3 time F1H2o World Champion Philippe Chiappe has enjoyed incredible success in other championships, he first won the 24 Heures motonautiques de Rouen in 2006 and went on to capture a further 5 chequered flags between 2013 and 2017 on the River Seine.

His second place in Abu Dhabi yesterday after qualifying in 8th was certainly the highlight of his short F1H2o career, I asked his CTIC F1 Shenzhen China Team Manager, Eric Chan (below) about Morin’s progress.

Eric, it hasn’t been the easiest of years for your team, you won the Drivers World Championship with Philippe Chiappe in 2014,2015,2016 and were runners-up last season.

Whilst Chiappe has had technical issues this year, Morin has really come into his own and now sits 4th in the World Championship behind the might of the Abu Dhabi boats, you must be really pleased with his progress?

I am really glad to see Peter’s great improvement in 2018.

Morin showed in Abu Dhabi yesterday that not only could he compete for podiums, he was really putting pressure on race leader Thani Al-Qemzi in the last 5 laps. We have the final race of the season in Sharjah on Saturday, where the World Championship will be decided by 3 drivers, Shaun Torrente, Al-Qemzi and Erik Stark, do you expect Morin to get amongst them again and split the points?

Peter will have the chance to get in the top three again if there are retirements and non-finishers as in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

We understand that we will be second in the F1H2o Teams World Championship this year, for us we have no pressure and we will try hard to go to the podium.

Sharjah is a lucky city for us!

Finally, Eric, can you give Powerboat Racing World an exclusive? Will CTIC F1 Shenzhen China be keeping the same driver line-up of Chiappe and Morin for 2019?

Our plan will be to have both Philippe and Peter again for 2019 as F1 drivers and I am looking forward to fully supporting them next season.
