The brand-new venue on Lake Toba in Indonesia is nearly ready to host the UIM F1H2o Kopiko Grand Prix of Indonesia this weekend according to the local Public Works and Housing Ministry (PUPR).
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono told antaranews.com:
To develop this tourism destination, the infrastructure had to be repaired, and then the amenities for the event organisation had to be put in place.
Finally, a massive promotion for the tourism destination.
The work commenced at the end of November last year and cost $2.3 million which was paid for by the state budget.
The works included a pier, dry paddock, public toilets, fences, and ditches for the race with other infrastructure projects for surrounding villages.
Head of the North Sumatra Provincial BPPW Syafriel Tansier commented on the project:
Hopefully, the implementation of the international event will revive the local economy through the tourism activities in Lake Toba, and we expect that the infrastructure can be utilised and maintained properly.
