F4 UAE Championship – Abu Dhabi

John Moore on 24th January 2020

It’s always nice to watch some powerboat racing in the winter, by happy coincidence I’m on vacation in Dubai and took the opportunity to drive to Abu Dhabi today to watch the F4 UAE Championship.

Seven boats were competing in the championship and those hulls have all been built locally under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC).

The ADIMSC has enjoyed huge success in the UIM Formula 1 and 2 classes over the last few years, and their team manager, Guido Cappellini (above left), was at the event today.

He emphasised to me, that unlike the F1 and F2 hulls that are built by his Italian company DAC, all of the F4 boats on the water today were built by ‘the club’.

2019 UIM F2 World Champion, Rashed Al Qemzi (above right) was also at the Corniche Breakwater today.

He spoke to me about the club’s project of encouraging local talent to race in the UIM equivalent classes of GT15, GT30 and F4.

Interestingly, ADIMSC was considering setting up a local F2 class, however, now that the Mercury Optimax has been discontinued, the club decided not to go ahead.

PRW will be printing an event report with results tomorrow.
