Guernsey2017 cancelled

John Moore on 1st August 2017

The Guernsey Powerboat Association (GPA), the organisers of the 2017 UIM Class 3A and 3B World Championships have today cancelled the event due to a ‘lack of entries’.

The GPA have issued the following statement:

The Guernsey Powerboat Association Worlds Organising Committee and Race Committee are extremely disappointed and sadden to announce the cancellation of the UIM World Championships Class 3A & 3B and the UIM European Championship Class V24 in Guernsey in September 2017.

Guernsey has a long history of organising and running excellent International and local powerboat racing, sadly, Guernsey has been badly affected by factors outside of its control and the lack of UK entries has decimated the fleet for the event.

We would like to sincerely thank all our Sponsors, Ravenscroft Stockbrokers & Investment Management; Saffrey Champness Chartered Accountants; Raven Russia; Stanley Gibbons Investment; La Collinette Hotel; Event Services Ltd; Rohais Motor Centre; Boatworks+; Party On; Digimap; Channel Insurance Brokers; Principle Security; Manor Farm Foods; Jason Hobbs Architectural Services Ltd; Guernsey Trade Windows; Randall’s; Acorn Interiors; Stickerhut.co.uk; Podgers; the Government of Guernsey, Visit Guernsey, Guernsey Sports Commission and the Harbourmasters Office who have all been extremely supportive, and also thanks to Condor Ferries for providing an excellent and attractive transport package to Guernsey.

We are extremely fortunate in Guernsey that we are blessed with amazing volunteers and our heartfelt thanks goes to all them, who have worked tirelessly over many months and who have put their ‘heart and soul’ into putting on an event that would have made Guernsey proud.

Thank you to all the competitors who had entered and shown your support.
