Lady Racers At Cowes

Cowes will host the third and final round of the 2019 UKOPRA World Championship for Offshore Classes 3 A/B, 3X and 3N on Sunday 25th August.

The boats will be racing in the Cowes Poole Cowes, a 65.7nm course that will start adjacent to the Royal Yacht Squadron and take the competitors to Boscombe and Bournemouth Piers before they head for home.

The 21 strong fleet will feature 6 lady racers, Sue Baker, Charlotte Camsey, Sue Cosgrave, Colleen Sweeney, Michelle Murray and Hollie Woodhouse.

Sue Baker will make her return to racing with husband Clive in a Mercruiser powered Welcraft named Shadow Warrior in Class 3N.

She has had plenty of experience of Offshore Racing in the past, particularly at Cowes having competed in the Round the Island race.

Up against her will be Colleen Sweeney, who will be pointing the way on board Atlas Mr Noisy with her partner Alan Goodwin and Tristan Ormiston.

Charlotte Camsey, an aerospace engineer from the West Country of England, has followed the sport of Powerboat Racing from a young age and has raced in the Asia Powerboat Championships in Hong Kong and Macau.

After meeting Glynn Norvall in Asia, they decided to team-up in Class 3X racing his Mercury powered Marshan.

Sue Cosgrave and her daughter Hollie Woodhouse will be making the trip to the Isle of Wight from the Channel Island of Guernsey.

Sue will be racing her Backdraft, Dirty Deeds, while Hollie, who organised Round 2 of the UKOPRA Championship, will be driving her Phantom 21′, Me Too!

The third lady racer in the highly competitive 3 A/B class will be Michelle Murray, she raced in Poole for the first time with Mark Hayward, and the pair will be looking forward to a second outing together in their Yamaha powered Marshan.
