The 97th UIM General Assembly will be held later this month in Amsterdam, with some interesting rule proposals for the UIM F2 series.
The proposals include:
• The OptiMax 200XS will be allowed to race for another three years, with the 2027 season marking the final use of the 2-stroke engine.
• The Mercury Racing 200 APX engine will lose its homologation.
• The Mercury Racing 250 APX will become the preferred 4-stroke engine for the F2 World Championship.
This should now give all teams a clear path forward for the transition from 2-stroke to 4-stroke power.
And to that end there will be two UIM F2 World Championships competed for in parallel next season for the teams running the Optimax and APX motors (subject to a minimum of five boats participating).
However, it will be interesting to see how many drivers choose to adopt the 250 APX before 2028.
As one F2 competitor told us:
“You can guarantee that if the APX is quicker than the Opti, we’ll all be getting them!”
