Österberg takes late Stewartby UIM F2 European pole

Johan Österberg from Sweden took a last gasp UIM F2 European Championship pole at Stewartby.

Tobias Munthe-Kaas had set a blistering fastest lap time earlier in the session in rougher water that looked unbeatable until Österberg posted the quickest lap just as the sun was setting.

Britain’s Matt Palfreyman put in the third quickest time, finding space on the circuit when it mattered.

Running with a #Pepstar engine and ‘recycled’ steering gear, the 2015 UIM F2 Silver Medalist showed a new maturity in the frenetic and difficult qualifying session.

Due to political issues various, the day’s timetable only allowed for the UIM F2 boats to practice and qualify.

The F2 teams are due to race over 4 heats tomorrow to decide the 2016 European Championship.
