Powerboat GP titles

John Moore on 6th October 2017

A summer season for RYA Circuit racers will culminate at the Powerboat GP WNT Grand Prix this weekend in Sheffield.

Harvey Smith has a 23 point lead over nearest rival George Elmore in the Junior GT15 class.

Smith only needs to finish third this weekend to secure his first Championship, he told Powerboat Racing World:

I can’t race to finish third this weekend, I have to win!

Thomas Mantripp has the 2017 GT30 British Championship in the bin.

An unusually diplomatic Mantripp said:

I have really enjoyed racing against Jonathan Brewer, Tiegen Goodfellow and Jack Pickles this year.

Ben Morse has used the 2017 Powerboat GP F4 Championship as his, ‘Swan Song’ and with a point to prove.

Priorities for the young and quick racer dictate that he will not be competing next year.

Morse holds a 26 point lead over another Ben, Master Jelf, he will have to keep focused.

Jelf has been learning his trade in international UIM F4 competition this season and has seriously impressed ‘doubters’ in his first season of catamaran racing.
