The Englewood Beach Waterfest had an impressive number of boats racing for the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) World Championships yesterday.

Rich Wyatt and Hugh Fuller won Unlimited in DF Young with the under powered Miss GEICO taking second.

Throttle-man, Steve Curtis said after:

We were seeing reasonable speed with the 1100 horsepower engines, competing against boats with about 800 more horsepower.

We had a sea strainer go which got everything wet, and slowed us down.

Tomorrow, we’re going to go out and run as hard as we can, and try to push DF Young.

If it’s bumpier, we might have a bit of a chance, so let’s race.

Nick and Austin Scafidi took the Super Stock class honours while FJ Propeller rolled out on a turn mark, both crew members, Jimmie Harrison and Gary Ballough were unharmed.
