Aaron Ciantar, founder of the championship announced that the 2022 season will kick off with the first race weekend happening on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of April in St Paul’s Bay.

Following a two-year absence, it feels like we are living our dream once again. The championship was quite successful, and we planned to have more teams on board, unfortunately due to the pandemic we did not reach our targets. The teams are extremely excited to race again, and we also have the possibility of two teams joining from Kuwait and Belgium.

This year the championship is also introducing the cyber class, which is a standard class with 25hp engines and can be driven by competitors aged sixteen or over. The aim will be to educate the Maltese teenagers in powerboat racing so they will eventually be capable of competing in other classes.

The Ciantar family was resilient enough during the pandemic and continued with all the preparations for the championship, even though the races were not happening. This goes to show how determined they are, the potential of the championship and the determination of making this happen. Enemed stands by these same principles and is pleased to support such a world-renowned championship once again.

At the Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Powerboat Championship Press Conference the Minister for Tourism, Clayton Bartolo said

Niche tourism is particularly important for our country. We have already seen how this worked during the pandemic, but now we need to investigate attracting high-level sports tourism such as that linked to powerboats…. I want to see this championship work and continue to evolve.
