Tonsberg cancelled – A bridge too far

John Moore on 9th August 2020

The organisers of the racing in Tonsberg this weekend have taken the decision to cancel today’s timetable of events.

The event which has been run in Tonsberg’s oldest city since 2013, has this year been run with the supervision and blessing of the local authorities, medical experts and the police.

However, during yesterday’s racing, it was clear that some of the townsfolk though that
it was unsafe to bring in an event to the city during a global pandemic.

The Tonsberg Batrace event organisers told me this morning:

We have tried everything to make this a safe and successful event, and we are proud of our volunteers that have helped to put on two fantastic days of racing.

The competitors have loved it, it is always great to have our racing family back together.

All sports activities should be based on sportsmanship, brotherhood, health and honesty.

We all need to think about how we live our lives now, this virus isn’t going away and we will have to learn to live with it.

I’m not keen on the laying on the sofa watching the Netflix option.
