Shaun Torrente was fastest in this afternoon’s Extra Free Practice in Olbia.

The Team Abu Dhabi driver posted a best lap time of 0:35.04, .04 of a second quicker than Philippe Chiappe and .63 faster than his teammate Thani Al Qemzi.

Italian Alberto Comparato was fourth best with a 0:35.77.

The session was cut short when sixth quickest pilot, Sami Selio, hit a submerged rock destroying his gearcase and badly damaging his prop.

As soon as he was safely ashore he informed Race Control about what had happened and the decision was taken to red flag the session to allow the Race Officials to inspect the depth at that part of the course.

Selio said:

This course is the most ridiculous one I have ever raced.

 

There is nothing safe about this one.

 

Perhaps the water level was higher when they homologated it but still how is it possible to hit rocks even if I was not really tight on the turn mark.

The 30 minute session only included eleven drivers with Kalle Viippo, Duarte Benavente, and the Stromoy Racing team drivers Marit Stromoy and Bartek Marszalek classified as DNS.
