Strong winds forced the postponement of the first heat of the 2016 UIM Offshore Class 3D World Championship in Chioggia on Thursday.
Heat 1
With better weather on Friday, the Championship got underway with the French team of Francois Pinelli and Saul Bubacco leading from start to finish.
They were put under early pressure by Abu Dhabi Team 2, (Serafino Barlesi and Alexander Barone), however the Italian pairing of Roberto Amadi and Lorenzo Bacchi in their class 3D racing debut captured the runners-up spot, whilst Abu Dhabi Team 1 (Ahmed Al Suwaidi and Roberto Lo Piano) took the third step on the podium.
Heat 1 Results
D1 Francois Pinelli and Saul Bubacco (FRA) – 400 points
D15 Roberto Amadi and Lorenzo Bacchi (ITA) – 300 points
D18 Ahmed Al Suwaidi and Roberto Lo Piano (UAE) – 225 points
Heat 2
Heat 2, run on Saturday was won by Serafino Barlesi and Alexander Barone in Abu Dhabi Team 2.
It was unlucky D13 for Daniele Martignoni and Marco Pennesi as they turned over their cat and were swiftly rescued.
Alfredo Amato and Gianluca Carli from Italy took the runners up spot, while Heat 1 winners, Pinelli and Bubacco had to be satisfied with third.
The third and final heat is due to be held tomorrow (Sunday).
