UKOPRA posts ‘ambitious’ 2021 calendar

John Moore on 2nd January 2021

The United Kingdom Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (UKOPRA) have posted their 2021 racing calendar and in the words of their chairman Kerry Bobin, it is ‘ambitious’.

Bobin added to the UKOPRA Facebook page in a late night post:

It is our ‘Ambition’ to open the racing calendar this year with our first event to be in Poole on 29/30th May 2021.

From there it is our ‘Hope’ that we return to the testing waters and hospitality of Guernsey on 26/27th June 2021.

Our friends in Bristol ‘Desire’ our presence in Portishead for what promises to be an epic race weekend taking in the varied waters of Cardiff, Barry, Porthcawl, Ilfracombe etc on the 17/18th July 2021.

BPRC hold ‘Commitment’ to run the much longed for 60th anniversary event at Cowes this year over the weekend of 28/29th August 2021.

And we will be ‘Finishing’ the season in Yarmouth over 23-26th September 2021.

Bobin obviously added caveats to the proposed schedule:

No guarantees and how those events will take shape is anyone’s guess with the present worldwide problems, however we will be working tirelessly toward making it all happen if possible.

If we can pull it all off with our race organisers this promises to be the biggest year for Offshore Racing in a very long time topped with the absolute jewel of the sport celebrating 60 years.

British offshore has one of the healthiest fleet of boats for many years, let’s join UKOPRA and ‘hope’ they are back in action this summer.
