Following the news that Powerboat P1 / OPA have submitted a Request For Proposal (RFP) to stage the Key West Offshore Racing event this November, I took the opportunity to chat to P1 CEO, Azam Rangoonwala at the Miami Boat Show today.

The genial son of Asif, (who has promoted racing on water for nearly 2 decades), was pragmatic and excited in equal measure when he outlined his plans to me for the forthcoming season.

Rangoonwala has worked in partnership with OPA Racing to build a 6 venue Offshore Racing series in the US this year.

At a press conference and lunch next Tuesday in Key West, the P1 / OPA team will be working hard to add the ‘Crown Jewel’ of Offshore Racing in the United States to top off their 2019 season.

Rangoonwala told me:

We have an excellent organising team and we have specifically coupled that with people that know Key West and how to give back to the island.

This is a huge challenge for us!

I have no doubt that Azam and his team will make an impressive bid to organise the ever popular event in November.
