The sun shimmered brilliantly over the azure waters of Dammam as the Al Sharqiyah Grand Prix kicked off the first race of the Xcat World Championship’s final stretch. Anticipation was high among fans and teams alike, as every twist and turn of this race could prove crucial in determining the season’s ultimate victor.

The race roared to life with Offshore 222 seizing an initial lead. However, it was a short-lived triumph. Much to the dismay of their fans, Offshore 222 was disqualified for jumping the start, a decision that thrust Team GB into the limelight. With precision and power, Team GB harnessed this unexpected opportunity, commanding the lead with each passing lap, while HPI 96 Fujairah and Victory 7 vied fiercely behind them.

Holding a strategic fourth position, SweCat 2, the leading contender of the 2024 World Championship, was steering their course with determination. But in the lightning-fast world of powerboat racing, fortunes can turn in an instant. SweCat 2 soon found themselves embroiled in a high-speed incident, their engine cover shattered amidst the turmoil.

The damage was visible but not deterring. SweCat pushed forward, driven by their championship aspirations. Yet, by lap 11, the race director made a call, disqualifying SweCat out of measures due to the compromised engine cover. The Swedish/Norwegian team was directed back to the pits, their hopes of extending their championship lead dashed.

Refusing to accept defeat so easily, SweCat filed an official protest against the decision. Initially, their arguments bore fruit as the decision was overturned, offering a glimmer of hope to the team. However, this reprieve was short-lived. The officials, after further deliberation, reversed their decision yet again, leaving SweCat with zero points for the race. Their championship lead, once formidable, now teetered at a slim margin of just 7 points above HPI Fujairah.

PRW says :

It is frustrating when rules are applied differently to the teams from the officials. Will poor desitions earlier this year decide the World Championship series? Shouldn’t the rules be the same for all teams? One must trust that the new race director in charge now will enforce a more fair line than his predecessors, who apparently did not know the rules. Or did he ?

The list of questionable decisions historically is extensive in Xcat Worldchampionship, and teams like Team Abu Dhabi, Maritimo and Team 6 have claimed they left the championship for this reason.

The stakes have been set for the championship-deciding final rounds. SweCat, though still leading, will start 8th in the final Saudi Arabian race, a challenging position by any standard. Meanwhile, HPI Fujairah, buoyed by recent events, secured a second starting position, a tactical advantage they intended to exploit fully.

As the Xcat World Championship barrelled towards its December rendezvous in Dubai, the tension is palpable. With only three rounds remaining, the battle for the championship is as fierce as ever. Team GB, set to start off the pole later today, aims to capture their second victory of the year, their confidence riding the waves of recent success.

The Xcat World Championship remained wide open, the water shimmering with the promise of thrilling battles yet to come.

On his birthday, 17-year-old William Martinsen showed the world elite in boat racing’s GT 30 class who the real champion is. Nineteen participants from nine nations competed fiercely for the prestigious gold medal. The weekend didn’t start on a high note. A modest 5th place in qualifying was not what the team had expected. However, in the first of four heats, the young man from Drammen gained great speed on his boat.

In heat 1, he climbed two positions. In heat 2, he started in the 3rd spot on the grid. This fueled his determination, and he won the next three heats with ease. After the four heats, William Martinsen finished with a perfect score of 1200 points.

Morten Solvang, who has been assisting us this weekend, has previously won the World Championship with this boat.

I actually took over the boat

after my friend, Andre Solvang, also won the World Championship gold with this very boat in 2020.

“I wasn’t originally planning to continue in the GT30 class as I have moved up to the F4 class. However, since we hadn’t sold the boat yet, the temptation was too great. My coach and mentor, Frode Sundsdal, wasn’t exactly in favor of prioritizing this class as it can be challenging to focus on two different styles, but he is one of the proudest today, so I think I am forgiven for this endeavor,” William Martinsen laughs.

The boat is now up for sale, and next year, Martinsen is focusing on the World Championship series in the Formula 4 class.

In a shocking turn of events, the GT30 World Championship in Poland took an unexpected twist even before the official start. The spotlight was on Mr. Ravasio, a promising contender for the championship title, as he faced disqualification from the race before it even started.

It all began when the technical commissioner for the championship, renowned for his meticulous inspections, discovered a major issue with Mr. Ravasio’s boat. The bulletin issued by the commissioner confirmed that critical parts were missing from the throttle body, which could potentially increase the power of the Yamaha motor.

Expecting a swift resolution, the commissioner offered Mr. Ravasio an opportunity to rectify the problem and continue racing. However, to everyone’s surprise, the team audaciously refused to accept the offer, stubbornly refusing to make the necessary repairs. This decision left the racing community perplexed and wondering about the true reason behind this defiance.

Adding to the controversy, as the commissioner tried to document the situation by taking photographs, the team prevented any visual evidence from being gathered. This action raised even more questions and suspicions – what were they trying to hide?

The championship organizers reached out to both Mr. Ravasio and his team, seeking an explanation for their actions, but no response was forthcoming. This further fueled the speculations and fueled the fire of curiosity among the race enthusiasts.

While the disqualification of Mr. Ravasio was undoubtedly disappointing for his supporters and fans, many wondered if it had been a wise decision for his team to refuse the opportunity to rectify the issue. After all, the chance to address the problem and continue racing could have salvaged his championship hopes.

As the news spread across the racing community, discussions about the incident intensified. Opinions were divided, with some believing that Mr. Ravasio and his team may have had legitimate reasons for their decision, even without any official statement.

The disqualification sent shockwaves through the championship, but it reminded everyone of the crucial role played by the technical commissioner in ensuring fair play and safety in the races. The incident also sparked conversations about transparency and accountability in the sport.

Ultimately, the disqualification caused a shift in the atmosphere surrounding the championship. It served as a reminder that even the most promising contenders could face unexpected hurdles, and that the integrity of the race should always be upheld.
