Drew Langdon and Miles Jennings

Class 1 was won by Drew Langdon and Miles Jennings driving Silverline, giving the veteran racers a 100% win and reliability rate this season.

Close behind were Rob Lockyer and Scott Younger in Team 25 Dragon while third in class were Gary Aldington and Tom Gardner.

It was Aldington’s dream to see offshore racing return to Falmouth and he had worked tirelessly to ensure that the Cornish town hosted a UKOPRA championship event again.

Class 1 Podium

Ornsby & MacGregor Racing were the sole finisher in Class 2 with Lee Ornsby, Ross MacGregor, Chris Drinkwater and Richard Saunders onboard.

Drive of the day came from Dennis Clemson who stopped to offer assistance to Class 1 boat On the Pull and then blitzed his Forgecraft hull in the rough.

Southampton Dry Stack

Clemson with co-driver Cameron Shields won Class 3C and the Cornish 100 trophy based on an index of performance algorithm created on the back of a Benson & Hedges packet.

]]> There is no stopping El Diablo as they stormed to another victory on the second day of the third Grand Prix of the 2022 Voomquest V2 Powerboat Championships in Cervia, Italy.

Weather conditions, particularly the sea swell, earlier on the day hampered practice efforts however the teams were able to complete their sessions. The forecast for the afternoon saw the race start an hour earlier and number of laps brought down to 9 from the originally planned 12.

There were no changes in placings from yesterday’s results, with Clive Butler and Sammy Grima’s El Diablo, continued to take maximum points once again.

Behind them were wild card entry Chaudron driven by Voomquest founder Aaron Ciantar and substitute co-driver Jurgen Camilleri after Ryan Micallef sustained minor injuries during yesterday’s race

Third place for the day’s podium was Interceptor Remax driven by Michael Xuereb and Sam Howes.

The GP3 concludes on Sunday 4th September.

The future of powerboat racing is often questioned, in Lithuania there is only one solution, engage young people, train them and they will take the sport forward.

The former owner and editor of this website, John Moore, spent an enjoyable day last Friday watching and taking some snaps of the LMF (Lietuvos Motorlaivių Federacija) organised Formula Future event in Kaunas. These competitors will then represent their country in September at the Formula Future XXI World Championship and XVII European Championship taking place in Brandenburg, Germany.

 

The class structure is derived by age and as opposed to racing; the young competitors undergo a time trial whilst they hone their skills around a set of turn marks.

Working hand in hand with UIM F2 racer Edgaras Riabko, Karolis Ramoska, the LMF General Secretary told Moore after event.

 

All countries should be running a similar youth initiative to what we have in Lithuania now. Perhaps we could then have thousands of younger people invested in the sport with some incredible world future world champions.

Frode Sundsdal, the owner of Powerboat Racing World is supporting the the Hydro GP event in Sweden this weekend.

He made the trip from his home in Tonsberg, Norway this afternoon in the knowledge that the series is incredibly popular but has had a low media profile.

 

Working with the editor of PRW, Chris Davies, a veteran photo journalist, the Norwegian is convinced he can give this discipline of powerboat racing the publicity it surely deserves.
